I have already searched the forums, and was unable to find a solution.

I can not get Japanese characters to appear correctly. I tried re-uploading the files, tired every possible combination of language settings (unicode and euc-jp), searched the template.html file for any strange characters... nothing helps. But, I am able to view the coppermine demo japanese versions with no problem whatsoever. I don`t even need to change encoding options in my browser.

Any ideas? The address is www.cellokun.com/album

Thank you

Joachim Müller

wow, that was a quick reply.

i downloaded the language file, uploaded it, and am still having the same problem.

I am wondering what the difference is in my setup, and your demo setup.

If it makes any difference, I have tried both the Japanese version of Dreamweaver and Fetch to upload the files.

Thanks

Joachim Müller

What do you mean by "Japanese version of Dreamweaver"? Did you edit the language file before uploading? How did you upload, what ftp app do you use?

Joachim

I just used the ftp client included with the japanese language version of dreamweaver. I also used fetch.
I did not edit the files in any way before I uploaded them.

None of the languages with unusual characters display properly. I suggest you use a standard, no-frills ftp client to upload the files, or PM me an ftp login and I'll upload them for you.

What dou call a no-frills ftp client ?
I have the same problems and i used Fetch which is a classic on Mac.
I tried in automatic mode or in text mode and it is the same, i downloaded & installed installed cpg threetimes...
All is ok but accents are a veritable garbage. i saw on this forum that spanish or portugues had the same problem.
(for me it is the french...)

if the languages on the demo appear as garbage for you, there's something wrong with your browser setup. Please post your client OS, browser and charset settings.

On demo it is perfect.
it's why i am impatient to use for my pictures.
Problems only when i upload cpg on my server and only problems with the language (accents).
I'm using Mac OSX 10.3.5, mozilla 1.7.2 (automatic coding detect),
Stuffit expander was used to unzip cpg132
Fetch to upload cpg132 (i used fetch in automatic mode and in mode text)
no pb to install cpg or to create album with french accents, french accents are wrong only in cpg bar menus

i've had a similar problem before with another script... i believe it was an news editor or something like that... anyways, if i remember right what you have to do is create the .htaccess file stating the encription, you're prolly trying to host the script on an non-japanese server right??? :)

good luck...

I have been facing the same Japanese jibberish problems.

I have the latest version 1.32 installed with the latest language files.  My server is in Japan and half of my website is in Japanese, which I have no problems with.  I can see the Japanese demo version fine (windows xp microsoft IE 6.0) but only get jibberish on my server installed version when I click on the Japanese flag.  I have tried nearly every possible combo for encoding.

Do you think that japanese-utf-8 does not work on my server?  (I have asked my server the same question.)  Or is there some other explanation.

Any guidance or information would be much appreciated.

plala

I got a reply from my server support people.  They seem to think that the Japanese euc is the way to go but it will not help if the htm metatags are hardcoded as utf8.  Can anyone enlighten me on the htm metatags..?

plala

It seems that if I choose the Japanese option under Language and Japanese euc-jp under encoding and then save the new configuration then continue, when I go back into the Config the Language has automatically reset to Japanese uft-8.

Any suggestions?

chtito

The japanese utf-8 is broken (as are many other language files). I will fix all these files as soon as i can.

A quick fix for you: open the japanese.php file using the proper encoding (euc?). Save it in utf-8 encoding under the name "japanese-utf-8.php", in the same folder. Then choose "japanese-utf-8" for the language and "utf-8" for the encoding in the config page.

Same advice for all users who experience trouble with utf-8 languages files.

Good luck!
