Mysql connection

My coppermine gallery is up and running but every time i try to add a password for logging on mysql I get connection error but without it works fine. can some one tell me what i am doing wrong. I have no other problems logging on to the mysql server from the command promt

You need to update include/config.inc.php with the new password.

It is when i update and add a password that it will not work, remove the password and it works fine

So what's the problem ? leave it blank if it works.
