"Important: do not create folders or upload to the userpics- nor the edit-folder by ftp: these folders are used by Coppermine internally and mustn't be used for any other purpose!"
Using FTP for the first time, I did exactly that. The Gallery had been working fine so I never read anymore documentation than I have time for and I should have but i didn't.

In the FTP I dragged one , just one, pic from my local file to my server to the userpicsfile and my entire album disappeared, over 500 pictures. Disappeared isn't the right word because the pics appear to remain in the user pics file but I have no idea how to make them reappear as the gallery they were.
Is there anyway to undo what I have done or to somehow connect that file of pics with a new gallery?
I have some urgency as it was an ongoing record of damage a marina of boats are sustaining as a result of winter storms for those boaters who are out of town and can't monitor the situation.
The gallery was at http://www.roadsassy.com/Sassshots/index.php and was named differently. It seems to have retained the theme I gave it but nothing else.
I have had the permissions on 777 and now 755.

Any advice and the patience required in dealing with the mentally deficient is appreciated in advance.

That shouldn't have happened. If you PM me ftp and phpmyadmin logins then I can take a look at it for you if you want if it is urgent. It seems like a database issue to me.

Hi

[removed]

http://www.roadsassy.com/Sassshots/index.php
I am obviously computer dense and have been spoiled by no need to know ftp protocol or whatever it is by using MT  in my online blogging.  I had just downloaded the cute ftp to expedite matters with these pics  and immediately screwed up.

My appreciation for your time. I hope these are the passwords you need.
I went into my files from the control panel, not the php thing, to change permissions - the php needs no password and is too intimidating for me to have done other than glance in horror and flee.

Thank you
Ann
http://roadsassy.com/waterblogged   <---- blog i'm doing content for ( god forgive my ignorant soul) for a boat brokerage that the album is supposed to 'append'  to - all to go to  a different domain name once officially launched, but that is why it is in there with my MT stuff- it's piggy backing on my personal blogs until it is officially launched - it that even pertains.... :::sigh:::

Your coppermine database is empty, it just has the default data in it, plus your admin account which was registered today. It looks like you have uninstalled and re-installed coppermine. Unless you have a recent backup of your database you will have to add all the pics again, they are still there.

I very much appreciate knowing where to start.  I think.

Might I ask , how the blazes did I manage to do that? I'll never use FTP again, I'll just go 10 at a time... oh dear, that will never do. I will start fresh and hope not to cause more havoc.... I have just printed out all the documentation. Reading instructions is torture  but better that than to torture ya'll with my unadapted brain.

uhm, -if i transfer all those  pics that are there in users to a  file that  i will make for batch uploads, will the newly installed Coppermine recognize them? Will it treat it like an uploaded batch?
or are they a viable directory for the new installation and need to be redirected...sorry... I don't know what I'm trying to ask.
I'll just go start reading my printout as I make a new gallery.
Might I ask also how it is showing that I registered today when I didn't go through the mechanics of registering again?

I only went into my files on the server and into the control panel tor preinstalled scripts/fantastico which said this...

Short description: An Image Gallery system featuring categories and albums, thumbnails and intermediate size pics, search feature, new and random pictures, user management (private galleries, groups), user comments, e-cards feature, slideshow viewer.

New Installation  (1.3.2)
Disk space required: 9.79 MB
Disk space available: 433.5 MB

Current installations:
/Sassshots (1.3.2)

How did I trigger a new registration and installation from what I did in my FTP?

Again thank you for your time and bless your patience

Ann

FTP isn't related at all to MySQL.  They are two entirely different animals.  I have no idea how you managed to reinstall Coppermine, but then again I have no experience with Fantastico or any other automatic software installer.

Either you accidentally triggered the installation process via your control panel, or someone else did.

If I were you, I would download 1.3.2 from our site and install it yourself.  Fantastico builds are crap.  You'll never have to worry about Fantastico overwriting your database and/or files again.
Do not send me a private message unless I ask for one.  Make your post public so everyone can benefit.

There are no stupid questions
But there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots

If you keep your current userpics folder, but rename it to something like old_pics, then install coppermine by downloading it from here, you can batch-add the old pics into the new gallery.
