How do I batch upload?

so I click the batch upload button and it says:

This function allows you to add a batch of file that your have uploaded to your server by FTP.

Select the directory where you have uploaded your files

What directory is it talking about? where do I go from here??? I read all other threads on batch uploading and others seem to see something I am not?
