I'm probably doing this wrong, so please correct me, lol. I did a search in the forums to see if I could find a solution before posting a new topic, but it didn't solve it for me. I'm trying to get rid of the thumbnails on the main view page, and I just want the album titles to be viewed. I do not have them placed into a category. I have gone into config and changed the setting to No for the "Show first level album thumbnails in categories ."

There's a link. Do I have those albums listed wrong in order to get what I want?

I believe it would require a change in the core code to achieve what you want.

I'm pretty sure I've seen it done before... they had a long list of the album names and then when you clicked the album, it brought up thumbnail view. But in the album list, it did not show a thumbnail picture or the number of files in the album.

you can effect this with changes to your theme.php

for example heres just a quicky where I remmed out the alblist thumbnail:
theme.php; $template_album_list:

<!-- BEGIN album_cell -->
        <td width="{COL_WIDTH}%" height="100%" valign="top">
        <table width="100%" height="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
        <tr>
                <td colspan="3" height="1" valign="top" class="tableh2">
                        <a href="{ALB_LINK_TGT}" class="alblink"><b>{ALBUM_TITLE}</b></a>
                </td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
                <td colspan="3">
                        <img src="images/spacer.gif" width="1" height="1"><br />
                </td>
        </tr>
        <tr height="100%">
                <td align="center" height="100%" valign="middle" class="thumbnails">
                        <img src="images/spacer.gif" width="{THUMB_CELL_WIDTH}" height="1" class="image" style="margin-top: 0px;
margin-bottom: 0px; border: none;"><br />
<!--                        <a href="{ALB_LINK_TGT}" class="albums">{ALB_LINK_PIC}<br /></a>  -->
                </td>
                <td height="100%">
                        <img src="images/spacer.gif" width="1" height="1">
                </td>
                <td width="100%" height="100%" valign="top" class="tableb_compact">
                        {ADMIN_MENU}
                        <p>{ALB_DESC}</p>
                        <p class="album_stat">{ALB_INFOS}</p>
                </td>
        </tr>
        </table>
        </td>
<!-- END album_cell -->

Note the line with "{ALB_LINK_PIC}" in it.  Change to suit.

You might like the look of these simplified blocks.
Replace them in your theme.php under $template_album_list

<!-- BEGIN album_cell -->
       <td width="{COL_WIDTH}%" height="100%" valign="top">
       <table width="100%" height="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
       <tr>
               <td valign="top" class="tableh2">
                       <a href="{ALB_LINK_TGT}" class="alblink"><b>{ALBUM_TITLE}</b></a>
               </td>
       </tr>
       <tr>
                <td height="100%" valign="top" class="tableb_compact">
                       {ADMIN_MENU}
                       <p>{ALB_DESC}</p>
                       <p class="album_stat">{ALB_INFOS}</p>
               </td>
       </tr>
       </table>
       </td>
<!-- END album_cell -->
<!-- BEGIN empty_cell -->
       <td width="{COL_WIDTH}%" height="100%" valign="top">
       <table width="100%" height="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
       <tr>
               <td height="1" valign="top" class="tableh2">
                       <b>&nbsp;</b>
               </td>
       </tr>
       <tr height="100%">
               <td width="100%" height="100%" valign="top" class="tableb_compact">
                       &nbsp;
               </td>
       </tr>
       </table>
       </td>
<!-- END empty_cell -->
