There was an issue in 1.3 where the random keying resulted in updating mtime. Thread here for 1.3:

It seems to exist in 1.4 still. I got 7 pages of 20 files showing the same time.

I implemented the suggested code change in that thread in my 1.4 preview gallery so I'll give it some time to see what results from it.
