The option to at least log the IP address of new registrations would be a big help in deciding if they are genuine or not. If an applicant gives their location as UK and the IP address resolves to Ukraine (for example) that would raise the possibility of a spammer registration.
I know that IP's are dynamic for the most part but it would be one more tool in the box to help fight bogus registrations.
