Pictures are resizing to a strange color

When I or my users upload thir photos, the thumb and the normal gets resized to some weird colors.  When I click on the normal to see the full picture, that picture is ok.  I have replaced every file with a new (but same) file to make sure non of them got corrupted.

Are you using GD1, instead of GD2?

Yes, it's always been like that.  And it has worked fine before.
