Hi folks,

I've uploaded ver 1.3 standalone onto my web site which is hosted by Supanames. But since I just want to evaluate CPG for now I have not upgraded by Supanames account to include MySQL, instead I have created a free account with several other hosts that provide free MySQL.

The problem occurs when I run the install.php and fill out all the details correctly then click 'Lets Go', after a few moments it comes back with the message ...

Could not create a mySQL connection, please check the SQL values entered
MySQL error was : Can't connect to MySQL server on 'coolinc.info' (4)

I've trawled the support forum but can't find any mention of this type of setup/problem.

The details provided of two of the db servers I have tried...

Server Address :  free-mysql.BizHostNet.com
Port : 3306
Database Name : 1111718781
User  :  1111718781 Password : <private>

Server Address : coolinc.info       (part of 100WebSpace)
Port : 3306
Database Name : chrisff_funf
User : chrisff_funf Password : <private>

Any suggestions, other than upgrade Supanames ;) welcome!

Yes, that is possible as far as Coppermine is concerned. Perhaps Supanames does not allow you to use remote mysql servers to make sure you buy their service.

This should work fine. I just set up a bizhost account and connected to MySQL no problem and set up a Coppermine database on it. I'm struggling a bit to know how Supanames could be blocking you from accessing an external server by IP.

Nibbler

It may block outgoing connections to port 3306. Just speculation howver.

I suppose it is feasible, or even restrict outgoing connections to an IP range. You should probably check with the Supanames tech support chrisff
