Hi,

My first post here. I've had a look around a bit but haven't located anything that addresses my issue, so here goes...

I am attempting to install Coppermine 1.3.3 in a member directory (so not using auto-install that my host provides to public directory only). I have created a mySQL database mycopgal_cpg133 and given the file path to ImageMagick as  /usr/bin/  which is what my host told me it was last time I installed a php application.

I am getting the below error message after submitting these install details.

"mySQL could not locate a database called 'mycopgal_cpg133' please check the value entered for this

The installer can not find the 'convert' or 'convert.exe' ImageMagick program in directory '/usr/bin/'. Check that you have entered the correct directory name."

I have lodged this with my host also and I'm still waiting for their response.

I am wondering if you have come across this before or if it may have anything to do with file permissions (I have set them to 755 as advised) or a missing file etc.

Note: When I FTP'd Coppermine 1.3.3 to my site I got the following error messages during the transmit:

(1) FTP Error occurred - Access denied - File may not exist or permission problem - for "catmgr.php"
(2) same as above for:  "thumb_htm.jpg" and "thumb.html.jpg"
(3)"Index.php' is newer on the Remote Server- Do you wish to overwrite it?"  -    I clicked "No"

This last one (3)  I couldn't understand because why would this file already be there? (I do have 2 other php applications on my server "Gallery" and "phpBB2". At the time of installing Coppermine these were located in a different directory because I uploaded Coppermine to my public_html and then later moved Coppermine into the same directory as these other applications (ie: member area). I am saying all this because I am wondering if any of this may have a bearing on what is happening now with my installation errors?

I took a look at the Coppermine directory post FTP and saw that the thumb.jpg's  had arrived but the catmgr.php file as well as about 5 other files hadn't made the journey. I 'PUT' them individually and they are there now.

As for "index.php", I really don't know what that one was all about. Is it possible that Coppermine is refering to an index.php for another php application or something? May this be what is wrong?

It will be Kool to get some knowledgable feedback on this as I would like to know (1) if apps like "Gallery1.4.4pl6", "phpBB2", "cpg1.3.3" can co-exist? (2) How I can get Coppermine installed as per the above error messages?

I would first recommend re-uploading a clean CPG download after deleting your current installation from your webserver. It sounds like your FTP program might not have uploaded all the files and/or some files may have been corrupted in your original upload.

In regards to the mySQL error, I would check with your web-host provider to see if your mySQL server is installed on your "localhost" or if it is on another server.

You mentioned that your web host offers an auto-install script to install CPG. If it is Fantastico, you can install the gallery in any directory under your website's document root.

Hope this help,

OmegaGod,

Thanks so much for your reply...was beginning to think that I wouldn't get one.

You say re: autoinstall that

I'm not sure of the exact meaning of 'website's document root' here...

Below, is the message given by my host in the auto-install area:

(You must install in a top level directory. Example: 'http://yoursite.com/Coppermine'; is a valid place to install, but 'http://yoursite.com/user/andy/Coppermine'; is not.)

As I mentioned, I want CPG in a member directory which would be similar to the latter scenario. My understanding is that I therefore need to FTP my CPG. Is that correct?

In my last install, I actually FTP'd to my public (www) directory and then moved CPG into the member directory. I wonder if it is okay to do this or should I FTP directly to the said member directory?

I am also wondering (...if it is actually okay to do the above...), wouldn't it also be okay to auto-install to the public directory and then simply move CPG into the member directory?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay,

I have just now uploaded CPG again. I only got 2 x error mesages ( 1x "An FTP Error Occurred. Cannot Put thumb_htm.jpg . Access Denied. The file may not exist or there could be a Permission Problem") . This seems to have been uploaded regardless.

The other error/warning was;"index.php is newer on the remote server. Do you wish to overright it?" I clicked "No".

After upload I checked this file, renamed it to index01 and uploaded the index.php just in case i should have clicked "Yes" to overright. The two files  look the same in as much as the opening words read as follows:

ERROR
You installed the standalone Coppermine into your Nuke portal.
".
         "Please download and install a CPG Port: CPG for PostNuke OR CPG for PHPnuke";
    die();
} // end check
define('IN_COPPERMINE', true);
define('INDEX_PHP', true);

------------------------------------------------------------

So then, my next question is: 'Does this actually apply to me? What does it mean? What/if anything should I do?'

Anyway, I hope you will get back to me on this...

Regards,

:)

1) Don't use the fantastico package - they are known to differ from the originals (which can be obtained from our download section) and cause problems
2) Post an actual link to your page, not some dummy placeholder like "yoursite.com"
3) Coppermine can be installed to any directory that can be reached via browser (hence OmegaGOD's reference to your "website's document root"). This being said: coppermine won't mind where you install it, but your webhost may. In case they have a "funny" webserver setup, it's possible that coppermine can only reside in one directory, but not in another. As we don't know your webserver setup, you should contact your webhost (I'm not sure what a "member directory" is meant to be in this case).

Kool,

I think your first problem is that you are getting FTP errors. Unless you can get the files uploaded to your server without error, CPG won't work  ;)

1.) I am not sure why you are getting an access denied error. You should not be if you are FTPing  files to your webspace
2.) If you are FTPing CPG to an empty directory, there should not be an existing index.php file.

Try redownloading CPG from our website, extract the zip file, and reuploading the files to your webspace. When you extract the zip be sure to preserve files/directories heirarchy.

Hope this helps,

Okay,

Thanks guys for your feedback.

I will do as OG says and download/upload again.

My Image Magik problem is resolved but I just tried again and got this error message:

"mySQL could not locate a database called 'asianfa_cpg133' please check the value entered for this"

So then, in the meantime...

...are you able to let me know which Coppermine php file is responsible for searching/finding the mySQL database?

There is no coppermine file that searches for mySQL databases. You have to create a mySQL database for CPG to use. If you are not sure how to create one, you're web-host should be able to help you with it. After a mySQL database has been created, point your web-browser to install.php. You will need to enter the name of the database you or your web-host created into the form field.

Just as a reference the database name you enter will be stored in ./include/config.inc.php under $CONFIG['dbname']
