Odd upload error

Using 1.3.3 on a fresh server.
I can upload images/video from web link to the gallery, but not from Hard drive to Gallery.
I tried the silly safe mode fix, which didnt work, so I turned on the debug notification and it produced:-

post the error message you get, with debug mode turned on and notices turned off. Temporarily set "File upload method" to "Single file uploads only" for all groups in the groups panel.

If you have really selected a file to upload, check that the server allows file uploads...

well, does your webserver actually allow uploads?

I can add stuff to the gallery from  the URL tooll, website  to gallery without any problem.
I have FTP access and can configure FTP access to subdomains etc.
How do I check for what your asking??? I dont know much about the server side of things.

It's possible that your webhost has disabled http uploads. Ask them if this is the case.
