Automated alphabetical listing

I am developing a site with thousands of albums.  Most of them would be public albums rather than individual user albums. For user albums, Nibbler has already developed one:

It would be nice to have a similar alphabetical index for public albums.  In fact. an index that would alphabetize both public and user albums would be good. There is a need also for  similar alphatized listing of categories even if the preferred logical format would be a defined ordered listing -- just like in taxonomy of living organisms.
