Strange directory /userpics/10001/~0. in userpics directory

I have run this copy of coppermine for a year. Found that some of the userpics directory contain this strange directory:

/userpics/10001/~0.
/userpics/10001/~1.

Files inside the ~0. directory are mostly preview_xxx.jpg and mHTTP_temp_xxx.jpg

Is it normal? What process create the directory and the files? Can I remove it?

use ftp to rename them, if it causes a problem, rename them back.
worth a try.

You can safely delete them, they are by-products of the 'edit diectory' bug in CPG <= 1.3.2
