Failed to create directory gallery/albums/userpics/10001!!

OK, firstly I've searched through the forums for this topic - found lots of people with the same problem but no obvious solution. I've also search silly_safe mode or whatever & can't see a solution there either. So, all my permissions are set to 777, I can't find any reference to silly_safe mode in my include/config.inc.php so I've no idea whether it is or should be set. In my PHP info it is set to off. I've tried uploading as Admin and user also, still the same problem.

I suspect the problem is something to do with the directory path, people in the forums have alluded to it but which file do I find it in?

Well, I read that and still don't know what to to. My gallery is on my local server so I cant give you an address & account. If you want the debugging info;

Please note that there is no support for 1.4. All I can advise is that you check perms on the userpics folder, and that gallery/albums/userpics/10001 is the correct place (ie. the directory structure already exists up to 10001).

Permissions are definately set correctly & I don't know how I'd check that the path is the correct place - that's what I asked to be explained in my original post. I'm using version 1.4 because I am integrating into Joomla using the Joombla integration script (which only works with that version). Integration has worked fine, but the program doesn't.

This is really frustrating because I can see that lots of users have had/are having the same problem & I can't see a post explaining a solution!

Well is the path sensible?
If you go to your coppermine directory and do an mkdir gallery/albums/userpics/10001 what happens ?
What are your settings in config for albums directory and userpics directory ?
Have you changed them from the defaults ?

OK, I see we're not really talking the same kind of language here.

Again I can't tell you what my config settings are because I don't know where I'd find them. That is what I asked in my original post.

Please could you tell me where my settings in config are? All I know is I have changed anything from default values. When create a new album, it shows up in the admin but I have no idea where it resides in the directory.

There is a link when you are logged in as admin called 'Config'. Clicking on it will take you to the config screen. From there you can see all your settings.

"All I know is I have changed anything from default values" - I'm not sure what that sentence means, have you changed things or not ? Having 'gallery' in that path is not default, so unless you actually made a new directory called gallery then its not going to work set like that.
