I can't seem to upload files bigger than 1000 px.

I've set the max width or height for uploaded pictures to 5000 px (to be sure) and the max size in bytes to 3072 yet it won't upload any files bigger than 1000 px.

I've tried uploading a file smaller than 1000px of around 2 MB and then there's not problem - but as soon as the files is larger than 1000 px it won't let me upload not matter the size in bytes.

Help anyone ?

I can't duplicate this on my 1.4.2 test install.  Most likely you are running into a memory limitation set by your webhost.  It takes a huge amount of memory to resize images, and it has nothing to do with the actual file size - it's all about the number of pixels in an image.

Ask your host to increase memory allocated to php.  Check out the FAQ for a complete list of php.ini entries.

http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/faq.htm#uploadGeneralTroubleshooting

Does this happen during the batch add process, during the web upload process, or both?
Do not send me a private message unless I ask for one.  Make your post public so everyone can benefit.

There are no stupid questions
But there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots

It happens during both  the batch add process and the web upload process.

When I batch it it will add the smaller files but not the larger ones.
My PHP memory is 8 MB now - I can have it upgraded to 16 0r 24 MB but unfortunately I'll have to pay for that - which I don't mind if someone can actually say with some certainty it will solve this problem. (and should I upgrade to 16 or 24 MB then ?)

What conclusions can be drwn from that ?
It's probably a dumb question but I don't know anything about php  :-X

None whatsoever, that's why nobody asked to see it. Please post a link to a pic that you are unable to upload to Coppermine.

nelgar

well that would probably be any picture larger than 1000 px I suppose , but to give an example:

I tried adding the pic that doesn't work for you to my gallery. It fails with an 8MB limit but can be added sucessfully with a 16MB limit. You could also try using imagemagick if available, it is not affected by the php memory limit.

nelgar

Thank you very much :)

I will try image magick first then :D
