1) You need to find a good webhosting service. The webhost must provide mysql and php services. Try to avoid Windows IIs type services.  Very few of us use IIs and support with those servers may be somewhat limited.

2) You need to create a mysql database if your webhost doesn't already provide you with one.  You will need to ask your hosting service how to go about creating that.   You will need the name of your database, the path to the database (usually 'localhost' works), as well as the username and password for the database.    If your webhost has created the database for you, you will need to get that information from them.  If you create your own database, you will need to write these down and keep them handy for the coppermine installation.

3) You will need to know which directory (folder) on your website is the "public_html" directory where all your visible website's files will go.  If you do not have a "public_html" folder in your site, ask your webhost in what directory you are supposed to build your website.

4) You will need an FTP program to upload coppermine and all your pics.  Check if your webhosting service provides one.  If not, do a search on the internet for FTP programs and select one that you feel comfortable with.

5) Download the latest version of Coppermine from the download link above and unzip the files.  Upload the unzipped coppermine folder to the "public_html" directory of your site.

6) Rename the newly uploaded coppermine folder  anything you want.  Most common names are "photos", "gallery", "pictures", "lobby", etc.

7) Using your FTP program, right click on the "include" folder and "CHMOD" it and all the files within to  '777'  (once you have completed the installation process, you will want to "CHMOD" it back to 755 or 644).   While you are at it, CHMODE the "albums" folder in your coppermine directory to "777" as well.

8) Using your internet browser, type in the URL of your website followed by " /your_coppermine_folder_name/install.php"
It should look something like:

                        http://www.yourwebsite.com/your_coppermine_folder_name/install.php

9) Follow the instructions and fill in the blanks.

10) read the documents in the Coppermine/DOCS/ folder before proceeding any further.
