How do you edit the optional fields (when a user is asked to register with their email and user and pass screen)

These fields are displayed within the "user profile" area. They will appear only if you assign a name to the field. As instructed in the heading, use field 6 for long entries, such as biographies, or if you want to include the use of bb code.

You can also use field 6 for avatars. To show an avatar in the profile, it should be entered in bbcode, for example to show 'avatar.gif', which is located in your images folder, use the code (https://coppermine-gallery.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.yoursite.com%2Fimages%2Favatar.gif&hash=a011bcd190fd26a2e550a23e48a720e80f7437e4)

this doesnt explain how to edit the form itself............which file does need to be edited??

Well, if you scrolled up, you would see that the instructions is part of the Config.
