I carefully folliowed the upgrade instructions, but nontheless I cannot login whatsover. Coppermine does not even show me the login-screen :(

DONE

Could somebody please give me a hint on what to do? I am stuck.

Make sure to overwrite the old files. The update.php file and sql/update.sql are not from 1.4

Uhm, please delete this thread, I am emberassed as one could be - I uploaded the 1.4.4 "imagegallery" into coppermine....

Now everything works perfectly!

So, please delete this thread as it is useless
