Max. charactres for Mysql username and database

Hi, I have a problem,
I was using coopermine and it is a wonderful application, but I changed my hosting and I can`t  innstal coopermine anymore. Could it be because my mysql username and database names are too long? (both 17 characters). It allway writes me "acces denied at (myusername)@localhost" and the username is written without the last character.

Make a username that is shorter. The limit is a MySQL one, not a Coppermine one.
