NEED HELP! PLEASE!

I do not understand most the words on this board.  So please be gentle.  I added pictures to my gallery on my site and for some reason all of my old pics are now gone.  They may still be on the server since the owner of the site has one of the pics as his avatar.  Is there a way to retrieve these pics?  Sadly I was made the Admin for the photo gallery of our site but no one knows how to use this program.....basically I was told to figure it out.  Help?  Anyone? Anyone? :?
