LogIn problems after upgrading using Fantastico upgrade

I  upgraded from upgraded from v.1.3.3 to 1.4.4 using fantastico, it is hosted by a hosting company, all is well but now I am not able to log in.
When I try I get the following message: *** couldn't log in. Try again ***
I have access php admin and retrieve all the passwords and user names but still can't connect.
I have tried on different computers.

I looked at the source code and it shows 1.4.2. Forget Fantastico. It introduces extraneous issues. Download the latest version from our site and read the docs on upgrading.
