I couldn't find anything really related to the question I wanted to ask... so... here's a new topic for ya!  I am currently running Coppermine, plugged into phpBB and have been for a year or more.  With all the upgrades that come down the pike, I'm pretty sure things are not as they should be.  In fact... I know they aren't.  phpBB is junk.

Regardless, I am planning on dropping phpBB and moving to SMF and doing a a new installation of Coppermine to clean up some of the bugs that have cropped up along the way, and bridging the two.  This should be a fairly easy process, from what I have read.

On the other hand... and I may not be wording this correctly, but.... ideally, I would like to somehow retain those database entries that my old version of Coppermine created and carry them over to the new installation.  Is this possible?  or... should I just give up hope and start from the ground up again?

Thanks in Advance for your Help!

Why not try upgrading Coppermine (you currently have 1.3.2) instead?

After doing what Thu suggested, use the phpbb to smf converter provided by smf. If everything works as expected, your user IDs will remain the same, so after performing the upgrade you should be able to run the bridge manager and bridge the two apps (cpg1.4.4 and smf) and you should be fine.

upgrading instead of new install?  reason for that... there's seems to be functionality that is a little mucked up.  such as ecards don't work correctly.

as far as upgrading, do i have to upgrade phpBB as well... or can i just do the upgrade on coppermine?

thanks for the info on the converter gaugau!  i just hate that one word you used... IF  ;)

Different issue, different thread!

Urm, you suggested to move on from phpbb to smf, so I don't understand your question in the first place. What should updating phpbb help if you plan to migrate to smf anyway.

to the different issue, different thread...

TranzNDance asked "Why not try upgrading Coppermine (you currently have 1.3.2) instead?"
i was answering everyone in some post.

in answer to your other question...
i dunno... sometimes things just work that way.  last time i upgraded coppermine, i was told that i had to upgrade phpBB.

Joachim Müller

depends on the order of steps you take: if you decide to update coppermine first, you may have to update phpbb as well. If you decide to move from phpbb to smf first, you probably won't have to upgrade phpbb. For details, you better had posted what version of phpbb you use.
