How do you mean broken ?

Joachim Müller

when opening the language files with an editor that isn't capable to display utf-8 correctly, then the content of the files may appear "broken" for you. Notepad.exe is not an option, although it has limited utf-8 capabilities. Just upload the files as they are to your webspace without opening them in an editor. If you must edit them, find a proper editor.

Things you could do to try to fix those issues:
  • Try downloading the archive from a different mirror.
  • Turn download managers off temporarily.
  • Review your un-archiver settings, making sure that it doesn't interfere with file types it doesn't understand.
  • If everything else fails, check out the stable branch of the svn.

I checked the archive downloaded from the German mesh mirror, using both WindowsXP's built-in zip/unzip archiver as well as the recommended OpenSource-app "7zip" (freeware). Both were fine and not broken, so I guess this must be something on your end.
