Support for lens type by EXIF?

I am not sure whether there is support for lens type in exif info. I.e. so that if I have a Canon 70-200L 4.0 lens this info is also displayed like for example:

Lens type: Canon 70-200L 4.0

As far as I know: Canon cameras are not able to identify the lens manufacturer.
I am using Canon bodies + Canon and Tamron lenses. No matter which lens I use, the EXIF always know if I use a 70-200 or 28-75 or so. But the EXIF never knows if I use a Canon or a Tamron lens.
