Thx for the reply.....I have made progress while waiting...

I noticed that small JPGs WOULD work.  So I changed the following setting:

  Max width or height for uploaded pictures/videos (pixels)     from default of 2048 to 3072

I looked at that earlier and considered changing but thought the next line would take care of that:

  Auto resize images that are larger than max width or height - YES

Guess not.  I will let you know if I have any more issues.
