can't understand what's going on here, it all seems to have installed fine, and there are no problems with uploading files/creating albums and such, but for some reason i'm having problems with the viewing permissions.

basically there are three categorys, "pictures", "music" and "video".

i want to add passwords for albums within the "music" and "video" category's.

the problem is that since trying to password protect them it seems all the folders  i try this on dissapear from public view - and i can't get them back!! so now i can only see them when i am logged in as the admin. obviously i tried going to album properties and changing it so anyone can see the album, but this doesn't seem to do anything.

so can anyone please help with this?

Edit: notice that in the "pictures" category it says there are two albums, and 31 files. In fact there are 8 albums and 88 files!

remove password from those albums and change the "Album can view by" to member of registered group
then only registered users can see those album
or if you want to get deeper you can create a new group and then set the album view by to that group and add your selected user to that group

ok, that worked and the albums are viewable by the public again...

but how do i make it so that guests can see the albums, but need to enter a password to view the contents?

try this:
admin menu=>config=>Files and thumbnails advanced settings=>Show private album Icon to unlogged user
set it to yes
and then go to your albums and set the album view by to registered group
then guest (unlogged users) only seen a "private" icon on your category and they need to register (login) to see the content
