Hi,

I have been playing around wit Coppermine for a few days now and everything works great!
However I do have a question: Is it possible to use external links instead of uploading the pictures? I am asking due to my very limited webspace. So instead of uploading it to www.mywebsite.com, I want coppermine to use pictures of www.otherwebsite.com/picture.jpg.
Is that possible?
Hope you know what I mean ... it's a bit difficult to explain.  ;D

Thank you for any help!

Has been asked often already - next time, please search before posting. Answer is: no, remote storage is not supported. There's a mod that claims to enable remote storage named "External Images Links / Use "remote" storage servers". We don't recommend nor support it though.

HinDu

oh, sorry. I did search for "external links" and "external pictures" ... "remote storage" didn't cross my mind, sorry  :)

Is there any future plans in implementing remote storage? Also, is there any solution for my problem, besides "get more webspace" - i.e. any workaround?

Joachim Müller

No, we don't plan to add such functionality to coppermine's core. We believe that it would be used by some users to steal bandwidth from others by hotlinking pics they don't own.
Workaround would be to use the mod I refered to or create a mod of your own.

Joachim

P.S. Get more webspace ;)

yup, just read it in the thread you gave me the link to.
Although I don't really agree with it, since I can steal pics anyway (don't need coppermine for that) and the possibiliy for legal activities are much bigger. For example I live in another country and want to share my photos with my friends. I have my own domain for the php stuff (and coppermine) but my photos would be on free webspace.
But ok, it was just a suggestion. It is not up to (and I really don't want to) discuss what you should do with your project. Just a thought - no harm done, right?  :)

Thank you anyway for your friednly help and the link. Looks interesting!
