this is probably the oddest problem I've EVER encountered...
my gallery is really huge and includes over 12 000 pics. I was actually forced to move whole my site to another server, but I didn't want to miss a pic nor a user and that's why I decided to download all the pics to my hardrive and then upload them onto the new server.
the thing is, that a lot of pics have been uploaded 'manually' and that's why they are placed in the userpics folder (I suppose there are over 3 000 pics altogether with thumbnails and 'normals'). the gallery seems to work fine, but there are a lot of files missing. at first I thought it was something about the upload, but now I know it's 100% ok.
I figured out that it's all because of the amount of pics in each folder which is limited to 1998. in fact, they are uploaded and can be viewed by the gallery users, but aren't visible while browsing the folder where they are stored, and to make matters worse, they can't be downloaded because of their invisibility! how can I change it?

It's a setting on the FTP server, only your host can change that.

^ thank you very much  :)
[that's what I thought, but now I'm 100% sure]

would you mind telling me how to do this, because my host has no idea?  :o  ::)

Nibbler

Tell your host to RTFM  ::)

If you use Pure-FTPd on linux then it's the LimitRecursion setting in /etc/pure-ftpd.conf

Other FTP daemons should have a similar setting.
