Mysql database issue

I'm new to this thing.
Can someone tell me if I can use a database for two programs at the same time?
Like for example cmg and phpbb together in the same database?

I'm asking this because I have only one database and I want to add a forum to my webpage.

Yes , you can , simply use different prefix for tables ....
