Delete Images?

Sorry if this has been addressed, but I have searched the boards with every variation of delete image that I can imagine.  In the admin panel, I have no way to delete images, but I find reference to it on the boards, so assume that there somewhere is a place to turn this on.  Can anyone point me to it and if it's a plugin or mod, can you post the url to it so I can grab it?  Thanks much!

Just to clarify what I am having for a problem is that I deleted some images from the server via ftp because I could not find a command, then I used the cleanup commands in the admin area, but still have the reference to the images in the gallery, so get a bunch of boxes with red "x" because the images obviously aren't there anymore.
