CM 1.4.3 (stable)

I have several groups and many categories / albums. All this is working perfectly well... Various groups only have access to albums and many users are members of more than one group. This has been working as well to give users access to only those albums that they are supposed to have access to.
In other words, I have been using many of the features of CM permissions for quite a while.
Now I have a group "Friends" with several albums that only they can see.
I want to add the ability for only these folks to have Personal Galleries.

But, when I change the group "Friends" to allow uploads of personal galleries, I get no upload choice in their menus. I have tried both "Approval" and "No Approval".

They can create albums, but no upload button appears in their menu.
I do not want to send them to WinXP Publish, This is too complex for these users.
I do not want them to be able to upload to public albums, only their own albums.

I have tried:
(1) adding quota rather than zero.
(2) making primary group "Friends" rather than "Registered" with Friends Checked.
(3) Adding "Upload to Personal Galleries" to "registered Group" to see if that changed anything. it did not.

I have read the documentation and it leads no insight. This seems very obscure to me. Is it just me? The obvious thing simply does not work.
Known bug? Or some non-obvious thing I'm doing wrong?

Please walk me through this step by step. I saw another posting here on this subject back in September and the answer seemed to be "sure it works; go read the manual". Well I have read the manual and didn't see any answer to my problem. Please walk me through it.

Thanks very much,
ww

You will have to check the Allow "Public album upload" radio button in order to get the Upload link. This will just allow them to upload to their personal galleries. Keep Public album upload allowed to NO.

Actually, this is a bug in cpg1.4.x - the upload link doesn't show if personal galleries is enabled and public uploads is off. Afaik this has been fixed in the svn repo. I suggest performing a checkout of the stable branch. See http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=39217.msg186394#msg186394

Hmmm, but the above settings worked for me. windyweather is using 1.4.3 and my local 1.4.3 worked properly by showing upload link when I allowed "Friends" group to upload to public album and also allowed them to have personal gallery and making primary group of users as "Friends".

Not sure about cpg1.4.3, but it's way outdated and shouldn't be used any more. Maybe the bug has krept in later.

I have upgraded to 1.4.10 and the behavior is the same. I had to check "public album upload" for the group in order that the upload menu choice appears, and then the user still cannot upload to public albums, only the private albums.

As suggested on the thread in the bugs board, this has been fixed in the subversion repository only, which means that the suggested fix is not in cpg1.4.10 - it will be in cpg1.4.11. You have to apply the fix manually or check out the stable branch of the SVN.
