can't upload photos

I'm having trouble uploading photos into my albums, both by batch add and single file.

When trying to batch add, I kept getting the Warning message that I needed to set my directory to 777 or 755. I went into Config and found that the directories were already set to 0777. I tried 777, 0755, and 755 to no avail. (It is currently set to 0777.)

I read the troubleshooting manual and enabled debug mode, and tried the single file upload method. This is the error I got:

Destination directory albums/userpics/ is not writable by the script !


I have also checked the permissions on the /ALBUMS, /ALBUMS/USERPICS, and /ALBUMS/EDIT directories in my file manager. All are set to 777.

I have set up a test user account.

is the message i keep recieving.  the files are successfully uploaded but when i try to assign them to a album i keep coming upon this error.  i do not think the chmod is the issue.  anyhow here is what the source looks like:

I checked the include/config.inc.php file, and it already has the define('SILLY_SAFE_MODE', 1); line. What else should I do?

Well, nothing's worked so far. I think I'll just delete the gallery and try reinstalling.
