i'm going to try to explain this as best i can without confusing others as much as i feel at this moment. i know i'm missing something and even though i'm smart - i don't know enough about this to know what i'm missing or what to try next to figure this out on my own.
here's my situation- i have a website and a phpbb attached to it that I installed myself (after 2 tries with minimal difficulty).  I am determined to add a photo gallery to the site as my next project.   i've printed the documentation for coppermine and i've read the requirements and install portion.

i have a mysql database
i have php version 5.1.2 on my website and gd support is enabled
I used frontpage to ftp coppermine to my website, and it worked. when i tried to change permissions to the album and include folders,  i found that I could not. when i right-clicked, the security tab was not present.
then I read that frontpage should not be used to ftp.
I downloaded ws_ftp home and attempted to upload coppermine to the site to cpg140 but i got a failed error 550.
I thought that maybe my ftp program was messed up so I tried smartftp. it didnt work either.

i dont know what i'm missing. I can't even get through the changing permissions of the album and include folders portion of my installation.  Can someone point out the obvious to me - tell me what i'm doing wrong and what to do next to start moving forward with this?

update - ok, i guess i had to post something for my brain to start trying things out.
i knew that frontpage would ftp, i just couldnt change permissions. so once files were on site, i used filezilla to change permissions and then got the coppermine install screen to appear.  i entered in my information, but i'm getting errors now with what i'm calling my host name.(localhost was rejected, and i remember having a bit of trouble with this when i installed my phpbb)  i still am having problems with permissions, too. they seem to disappear. i'll work on this tomorrow tho as it's late.

You can't make up mysql settings, you have to know them. Look them up in your working phpBB. We can't help you with this. If you can't find an answer on your own, ask your webhost.
