intermediate pics don't show when uploaded via fetch on mac

using version 1.4.9

previously did all uploading on pc, deleted original image. intermediate showed up fine. recently got a mac, so i used fetch to upload pics. deleted original image. but now when you click on the thumbnail, there is just an error-looking thing where the intermediate should be and a link that says "click to see full image." when you click it, full size comes up... even though i had used admin to delete it. is this an error with mac... fetch... coppermine... all of the above? is there a way to fix without having to upload everything again?
