Welcome to the support board.

Please search the board before asking questions. In this case, I searched for the terms "sys_menu sub_menu move". One of the threads that I came up with is labelled "Moving items from sys_menu to sub_menu" and should provide the needed answers.

Another option would be to keep the sub_menu inside template.html and remove all links from it in theme.php except the search link.
We recommend using the plugin "Final_Extract v.2.3 with usergroup settings by admin panel" to get rid of certain menu items - this will allow you to edit your menu structure as you see fit without having to fiddle with the code. As an additional benefit, you'll be able to keep the other links for you (as admin) and remove the links only for non-admin visitors.
