Hi all.
Crikey, porn spammers are now attempting to spread their filth to our Coppermine Galleries.  >:(
I have a gallery solely for the use of the hundred-odd triathletes who ride our own brand of carbon triathlon bikes (I won't give the name, I'm not here to advertise), so I know our riders and whom to "switch on" as users to upload their pics to the Gallery. I usually use the link in the email.

But when I get an obvious spammer trying to get in, I have to go to the admin panel and delete them manually from there. Is there any way to add a link to the email to delete that unwelcome user ?

I also found a thread (from 2006) about making a field mandatory (that particular field was named "Fullname"). I tried to add the modifications to my register.php but when I tried it in my version 1.48, I got an error message. I'll try it again and report back with the error if it still shows. (Fortunately I had backed up my original register.php  :P

We have a strict "one question per thread" policy that you agreed to respect when signing up, so it's not a bright idea to ask two totally unrelated questions in one thread. Posting a link to your gallery might help for a start to help us determine what permission level for comments you have set up and advice actions against spamming.

Sorry, firstly, I sorted out the second problem. I had missed out an }
The reason I mentioned that, was because I wanted to see the names of people when they apply for the gallery, instead of just an email. I can see the name, email and Fullname now. My mistake...

The gallery is at
http://www.catbikes.ch/cpg148/

My son in law rigged it up for me.
It is set up so that new people wishing to post photos need to be accepted by Admin.
It's just all the new user applications from obvious spammers which is annoying. One can switch new users on by using the link in the email, I just wondered whether one can also delete new users' applications "remotely" so to speak.

Thanks !

First and foremost: you're running cpg1.4.8, while the most recent stable release currently is cpg1.4.12. So, you're running 4 versions behind. Versions before cpg1.4.11 contain a serious security vulnerability, so it is absolutely mandatory that you upgrade asap to cpg1.4.12.

This may already stop the spam, as you have disabled anonymous comments (which is a bright idea).

Please report back as soon as you have performed the upgrade.

Thanks for the reply, I am always wary of updating things which use a database, as the last time I attempted it myself (a bear of very little brain when it comes to databases), it overwrote every other item in my database and I had to get my provider to restore the backup version  ::)
So I'll ask my son-in-law to do the update for me and we'll see how it goes.

I don't think it'll stop the spam though, because these people sign up with names and email addresses just like everyone else. But we'll see. Maybe I can play about and make the "Frame Number" field mandatory - that'll fool 'em  :)

One other way to stop spam is to install the Captcha plugin which stops most automated spammers. It can also be used for the registration proces should there be automated bots who can register themselves on coppermine galleries. Search the plugin section of the board for that plugin.
