How to change icon associated with word or power point documents?

Does anyone know how to do this? I want to change the icon associated with word and power point documents when uploaded instead of the default icon. How do I do this?

Just replace the thumbnail with the one you want. Refer to the manual for details on custom thumbnails.

What if I add an "unknown" extension and want to give it it's own respective icon? For instance I add .rtf or some other document extension and want to give it an icon that says "RTF" on it?

Upload a file named "thumb_rtf.jpg" to the images folder. The naming scheme should be pretty self-explanatory.
