How does it work?  I seem to be getting "attacked" by some people in Australia (I think).  I keep getting registration requests from people I don't know, all coming from the same batch of IPs or IPs in the same area.

The logins are all failing because I have to approve all registrations.  Good thing I have that in place, who knows what would be happening right now!  Banning the names won't work, because they just keep signing up with nonsensical letter & number combos.  on 11/14 I tried banning 222.183.*.* hoping it would stop anyone from that area from registering.  As you can see from the last failed attempt that did not work.  I also have 220.250.8.120 banned, but as you can see on the 16th that IP tried to access the site under another name.

Any help would be appreciated.  I am using version 1.4.10

Use the captcha plugin to stop bots registering.

Alternatively you could block the chinese IPs using .htaccess or similar.

Thanks!  I installed that plugin, hopefully it helps!
