confirmation mail problem

hi! i've checked forums about my problem but couldnt find any solution. My problem is; when i register the site (tried gmail,hotmail,an email of my another website), it takes like 1 hour to confirmation mail to send. 2 days ago it was ok. it took only 1 minute or maybe less.
i think for new users to my site its bad to wait 30 minutes-1 hour for a confirmation mail. i have configured smtp but it didnt work. i know my hosting service provides smtp relays and smtp is enabled, or whatever.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
