Email as Login name / user ID

I want to use the E-mail address as a login name /userid, but I've seen that the definition in the Database only allow 25 charcters. Can I just change it from 25 to 40 or 50 Characters? 2nd Question: where do I have to change it?

Is there an relation-Matrix available?

I'd like to use email addresses as username as well, have you been able to get it working successfully?
