what is better to do???

to change the template.html ?

or upload a new header & footer ?

also... i read that i should change the theme.php and not leave it the way it is from the examples... what are the repercussions of leaving it the way it is??

Change it if it needs changing. If not, leave it as-is. Where did you read this? Post a link for reference?
