why on earth does 1 image appear in 2 categories

So am I making a BIG fool of myself or what ? I entrust my entire site to copermine to find well its going out of hand great.

why does an image although assigned to one category appear in 2 ?

Images go in albums, not categories. Sounds like you are accidentally using the linked files feature. If you don't want to use that feature then don't set any album keywords.
