Your firewall is either blocking the connection or your details are wrong. If you cant get back onto the control panel you may need to reinstall it.
Review the settings of your firewall and see if the program is blocked, you may also need to do the same for the Firewall built into Windows.

Well, the only firewall I have is the one that comes with vista, and I disabled it to see if that was the problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled the program, re-entered my info and it's still saying the same thing.

Should the mysql host be something different than 'localhost' for this?

Also, if it helps -- when I install and click "finish" on the setup screen, it says that the program has been successfully installed but the installation window doesn't close and it continues to say "finishing installation..."
