I found someone hotlinking from me today.   >:(   I deleted the file she was hotlinking, replacing it with a file containing text stating that she had stolen the file, and where from.  I gave the new file the same filename as the old file.

The problem is that coppermine will not display the new file.  It will display only a thumbnail.  In the "normal" view, it displays the "normal" view for the old image.  (The old image has been deleted from coppermine and I made sure it's totally gone from the server!  Where is coppermine getting this?)  It will not display on her page, either, even though the url to access the new file is exactly the same as the old one.  When I try to do directly to the image url, it says the file cannot be displayed because it has errors.  The new file is the same dimensions, type, and mode as the old image.

Okay, I fixed everything up there except for the fact that it's not showing up on her site.  I can see that the link is still there on her site, and again, the url is exactly the same.

What is going on here?  And how can I fix it?  Thanks for your time.

Post a link to your site and a deeplink to the picture you are talking about.
Post a link to the website of the person deeplinging your pictures so we can take a quick peek.

A quick search on hotlinking gives me this: http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,30738.0.html among several others dealing with hotlink problems. Read them also to know how stop others from hotlinking your pictures.

Interesting! She still has an <a> tag referencing the image, but there's no "link text".

Well, I did eventually get fed up and left her a message pointing out that what she is doing is THEFT.  And I reported her to Blogger, since her blog is blogspot-hosted.
