File Name Collation problem

Hi,
I have recently upgraded my Coppermine gallery from an older version and I'm having a problem with the file names.
As this is a user generated gallery, many of the images file names were uploaded in hebrew and are now saved incorrectly.
Is there a plugin/tool to update all my existing files with new names (either random or incremental) ?
I can simply rename and reupload the files - but then i loose approx 1 year of comments etc... which wont make me users very friendly :/
