Category thumbnails

I was trying to make thumbnails for 1st page categories (just like in Stramm's gallery)
But I just can't find a way to do so... I even found a tutorial but I guess the problem is something with my gallery
maybe I need to enable something

I just don't see category thumbnails in categories control panel like here

OK now I sort it out that it doesn't work for categories with subcategories
