Can not see file that are uploaded

I am new to this app, which is part of my web host package.
like Dankriss my Pics uploaded ok but can't see them.

I do have hot link protection disabled.

the warning I get is"
"The previous file could not be placed.
You have successfully placed all the files."

The file are being uploaded to /public_html/gallery/albums/userpics/

file permission on gallery is 755 if I set it to 777 I get a server 500 error.

Can any one offer suggestions

Part of it is solved
I can up load single files, had to use GD2
The batch file option is still eluding me.
For some reason I can set the gallery permission to 777 with out a server 500 error.

I removed coppermine and reinstalled it, now it works
