My site is pretty restrictive, I require a login before you see anything on the site. Registration is backed by CAPTCHA plugin. Despite all this I still get new user registrations from bots, at least one a day. I think an easy solution, at least for me is incorporate and additional input field, before or in the same page section as the CAPTCHA input registration information. The input would be easy, like asking the user to enter a special word displayed on the main page or "the black bold word in the top right corner of the screen" or " the first word in the page title" as a random example. This would be easy for us humans, but impossible for bots.

Looking for feedback and implementation help in the form of a plugin.

At best, even if at all, you should have posted this to feature requests.
However, before you do

  • Post a link to your gallery, you have posted in a help forum and commented about your captcha's performance. Is it set up correctly? No one here could know without looking
  • Read and search the board for other alternatives in stopping spam and it's rules for directions in posting
  • Read and search the board and you will find information about writing plugins
  • Many plugins started as mods. If yours is going to be "easy" then start there. Prove it can work to current browser standards.
  • Remember that there is no perfect solution to stopping spam. Yes, you can increase the degree of difficulty or add "bot hostile" java to your form submissions but in the end if there is a human trying to spam you from their own computer then there is not much you can do besides adding Askimet

Good Luck!

No, I disagree. Not a valid feature request. Please stick to this thread. Do as suggested and post a link to your gallery for a start.
