Adding Dropdown Limiters in Addition to Sort Options

Hello,

I was wondering if anybody looked into modifying the search results page to add a select box which would pull data from one of the user fields and limit content accordingly?

Example: user1 is used for "location". I have 10 different location in user1 field. I have searched for a keyword and got a results set. In addition to sorting options I see a select box listing all of my locations from user1 field. Selecting any of the locations will further limit content on the search results page.
