Memberlist only showing 1 page with 25 users

hi

I just upgraded a site to the latest version 1.5.6. (from 1.4.5). Now only one page of users (25) are showing. The site definitely has more users. There is no page tab to show more pages, as it should have.  If I search for a member/user, it finds them, but just doesn't show them all listed.

I did search the board and the net, but to no avail.  Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I switched to a plain theme (as opposed to the customized one) thinking that might have been the problem.

Then here:

do I just need to make that adjustment in the code?
